About the Book A Corner of the Universe

Meet Hattie Owen, a twelve-year-old girl living in a small town during the early 1960s. Hattie's world is relatively small, revolving around her family's boardinghouse, her summer art classes, and her best friend, Betsy. Her life is comfortable but predictable.

Hattie's summer takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of her uncle Adam. Adam has been living in a special school due to his mental illness, and his sudden presence in Hattie's life brings both wonder and confusion. Adam, with his childlike innocence and unpredictable behavior, becomes a central figure in Hattie's summer.

As Hattie spends more time with Adam, she begins to understand the challenges he faces and the prejudices he endures. Their bond grows stronger, and through their interactions, Hattie learns valuable lessons about empathy, acceptance, and the complexities of human nature.

This Page Is Under Construction

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
