This LitPlan Novel Study for A Night to Remember by Walter Lord is a comprehensive foundation of ready-to-use materials that will ensure your students get the most out of their A Night to Remember novel study.

Practical, flexible, and standards-based with step-by-step plans for the whole novel unit, my LitPlan Novel Study is especially helpful to new teachers or veteran teachers teaching A Night to Remember for the first time.

20 Step-by-Step Daily Lessons guide you and your students through this novel study. Assignments and Activities are planned for each day of the novel unit.

Vocabulary Worksheets that focus on meaning in context and dictionary definitions go with each reading assignment.

Comprehension Questions and Quizzes follow the reading assignments, so you know if your students are keeping up with their reading and if they are understanding what they are reading.

Writing Assignments are sprinkled throughout this novel study for A Night to Remember, too! Detailed writing assignment sheets guide students' writing.

  • The first is to inform: students take the persona of one of the passengers on the Titanic and compose a telegram to send home.
  • The second gives students the opportunity to be creative and express personal opinions: students will do a quick-write poem related to the Titanic
  • The third is to persuade: students will assume the persona of Milton Long and write what he said to convince Jack Thayer not to jump into the ocean from the Titanic.

One lesson is also devoted to Leveled Critical Thinking Questions:

  • Interpretive Questions require students to simply interpret facts that are given.
  • Critical Questions require students to think deeply to develop answers that go beyond what is in the text.
  • Personal Response Questions have no right or wrong answer; students formulate and give their own opinions.

A Nonfiction Assignment is incorporated into this novel study unit for A Night to Remember. Students will watch non-fiction videos related to the Titanic and share the information they gather from those videos with their classmates.

A Night to Remember Lit Plan

Posted by Hannah on Apr 2nd 2024

This was so, so helpful. It really simplified my prep! This book can be overwhelming because it has a lot of detail, and I really found this lit plan so helpful in pinpointing a few significant items to emphasize in each chapter. Usually I find myself modifying resources and curriculum plans to fit my class, but I used the worksheets (vocab worksheets and study questions) straight from the book without any of my own edits and was really happy with them. I am so happy to have stumbled across this-- I have been telling all my co-teachers about this resource!
