About the Book Charlotte's Web

The story begins on a small farm where a young girl named Fern Arable saves a runt pig from being slaughtered. She names him Wilbur and raises him lovingly until he’s sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman. Wilbur's transition from Fern’s care to the Zuckerman's barn marks the beginning of his new life filled with challenges and friendships.

Wilbur’s life in the barn introduces him to a variety of barnyard animals, each with their own distinct personality. Yet, it's Charlotte, a wise and kind spider, who becomes his closest friend. When Wilbur learns that he is destined for the butcher's block, Charlotte devises a plan to save him. She begins writing extraordinary messages in her web, such as “Some Pig” and “Terrific,” which astonish the humans and turn Wilbur into a local celebrity.

The climax of the story occurs at the county fair where Wilbur is entered in a contest. Charlotte, now weak and nearing the end of her life, spins her final words “Humble” into her web. Wilbur wins a special prize, ensuring his survival. In a touching conclusion, Charlotte dies, but her legacy lives on through her offspring, cementing her act of friendship and sacrifice.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
