About the Book Crispin: The Cross of Lead

Set in the 14th century, the book begins with the death of Asta, the protagonist Crispin's mother. Living in a small village under harsh conditions, Crispin is unaware of his true identity and heritage. Branded a "wolf's head," meaning he can be killed by anyone without consequence, Crispin flees his village to escape the malevolent steward, John Aycliffe. Finding a religious relic, a lead cross, Crispin realizes this object holds the key to his identity.

During his escape, Crispin encounters Bear, a traveling juggler with hidden depths. Despite his initial mistrust, Bear becomes Crispin's mentor, teaching him the importance of self-worth and courage. Their bond grows stronger as they face numerous challenges together, including avoiding capture by Aycliffe and his men.

The tension reaches its peak when Crispin confronts the truth about his parentage and the significance of the cross. It turns out Crispin is the illegitimate son of Lord Furnival, making him a threat to the current power structure. Empowered by this revelation, Crispin faces his fears and stands up to Aycliffe, ultimately securing his freedom and a future full of possibilities.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
