About the Book Ellen Foster

The story begins with Ellen's traumatic experiences within her own family. Her father is abusive, and her mother, unable to cope, ends up taking her own life. Left to fend for herself, Ellen's resilience becomes her greatest ally.

She bounces between relatives, each home presenting its own set of challenges. From living with her grandmother, who harbors resentment towards her, to eventually finding solace in a foster home, Ellen's story is one of survival. Gibbons paints a vivid picture of a young girl’s struggle for normalcy and love amidst chaos.

Throughout these transitions, Ellen's voice remains strong and hopeful. She clings to her dreams of a better life and takes comfort in small victories. Her determination to carve out a place where she truly belongs is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
