About the Book   Freak the Mighty

Freak the Mighty follows the friendship between two unlikely heroes, Maxwell Kane and Kevin Avery, who call themselves “Freak the Mighty.” Max is a large, slow learner who has struggled with self-esteem and trauma related to his father’s criminal past. On the other hand, Kevin, known as Freak, is a brilliant young boy with a congenital disability that restricts his physical growth.

The story begins with Max living a secluded life with his grandparents. However, everything changes when Kevin and his mother move in next door. Despite their differences, Max and Kevin form an extraordinary bond. Kevin, with his intelligence and imagination, provides Max with the confidence and courage he has always lacked. Together, they become "Freak the Mighty," embarking on adventures that blend reality and fantasy.

Their friendship faces numerous challenges, including bullying, family issues, and Kevin’s declining health. Throughout their trials, they discover the true meaning of friendship, courage, and acceptance. The novel concludes with Kevin’s tragic death, which leaves Max devastated but ultimately empowered to continue their legacy.
