About the Book Gathering Blue
Gathering Blue is set in a society where the strong dominate and the weak are often left to fend for themselves. The protagonist, Kira, is a young girl with a physical disability—a deformed leg—that makes her an outcast in her village. Following the death of her mother, Kira faces the threat of being cast out from the community entirely.
However, Kira's fate takes a turn when the Council of Guardians, the ruling body of the society, decides to spare her life due to her exceptional talent in embroidery. She is given a special task—to repair and restore the magnificent robe worn by the Singer at the annual Gathering, a ceremony that recounts the history of the world through song.
Kira forms friendships with other gifted children, including Thomas the Carver and Jo the Singer-in-training. Together, they begin to uncover the darker truths about their society, including the hidden manipulations and control exerted by the Guardians. With the help of her friends and her own growing courage, Kira starts to question the established order and seeks to find her own place within it.
