About the Book Grendel

Grendel chronicles the life and reflections of the eponymous character, Grendel (from the epic tale Beowulf), a monstrous being who has spent twelve years observing and terrorizing the Danish kingdom of King Hrothgar. The novel is set in the Dark Ages and follows Grendel's interactions with humans, monsters, and even a dragon.

Grendel is a creature tormented by his existence and isolation. He spends his days watching Hrothgar's prosperous kingdom, observing the humans' behaviors and listening to their stories. These experiences shape his understanding of the world and his role within it. Grendel struggles with complex emotions such as jealousy, rage, and curiosity, which drive him to confront the meaning of his existence.

The plot thickens when Grendel encounters a wise yet nihilistic dragon. The dragon's philosophy—that life is meaningless and the universe is indifferent—profoundly impacts Grendel, causing him to spiral deeper into existential despair. Armed with newfound invulnerability bestowed by the dragon, Grendel becomes bolder in his attacks on Hrothgar's mead hall, ultimately clashing with the hero Beowulf in a fateful battle that leads to his demise.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
