About the Book Harriet the Spy

Harriet M. Welsch is not your ordinary eleven-year-old. Living in Manhattan, Harriet aspires to be a writer and takes her ambition seriously. She carries a notebook everywhere, jotting down her observations about everything and everyone around her. Her keen eye for detail and insatiable curiosity make her a natural spy.

Harriet has a designated "spy route," taking her through familiar haunts where she can observe and record her neighbors' peculiar behaviors. From Mrs. Plumber and her peculiar habits to the Italian family who runs a grocery store, Harriet’s notes are thorough and often brutally honest. Her curiosity and dedication to her craft paint a vivid picture of her surroundings.

The story takes a dramatic turn when Harriet's private notebook falls into the hands of her classmates. Her unfiltered remarks about her friends and peers cause an uproar, leading to Harriet being ostracized. The fallout from this event sets the stage for Harriet to learn valuable lessons about friendship, honesty, and the consequences of her actions.

This Page Is Under Construction

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
