About the Book Hoot

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen is a delightful tale that combines humor, mystery, and environmental activism.

Middle-schooler Roy Eberhardt has just moved to Florida. Adjusting to a new school is never easy, but Roy’s life takes an unexpected turn when he spots a mysterious boy running barefoot. This sighting leads Roy on an adventure filled with intrigue and discovery.

Roy’s curiosity about the running boy, later known as Mullet Fingers, sets the stage for an engaging tale. Mullet Fingers, who has a knack for avoiding capture, becomes a central figure in the story. His motives, revealed slowly, add layers of complexity to the plot.

The core conflict revolves around a pancake house construction site that threatens to destroy the habitat of endangered burrowing owls. Roy, Mullet Fingers, and their friends band together to protect these owls, standing up against corporate greed and environmental destruction.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
