About the Book Hope Was Here

The story revolves around 16-year-old Hope Yancey, an aspiring waitress with a knack for serving both food and wisdom. After being abandoned by her mother at birth, Hope was raised by her Aunt Addie, a talented chef. The duo moves to Mulhoney, Wisconsin, to work at the Welcome Stairways Diner after their previous employment in New York falls through due to the owner's embezzlement.

In Mulhoney, they meet G.T. Stoop, the diner’s owner, who is battling leukemia but decides to run for mayor to challenge the town's corrupt leadership. Hope becomes deeply involved in G.T.'s campaign, finding herself inspired by his unwavering optimism and integrity. The campaign is not without its challenges, as G.T. faces fierce opposition from Eli Millstone, the incumbent mayor, and his cronies.

Throughout the story, Hope navigates her personal struggles, including her longing for a relationship with her biological mother and the challenges of establishing new connections in Mulhoney. Her experiences at the diner and involvement in the mayoral campaign help her grow and learn the true meaning of hope and community.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
