About the Book I Am the Cheese

I Am the Cheese by Robert Cormier follows a teenage boy named Adam Farmer, who embarks on a bike journey from Monument, Massachusetts, to Rutterburg, Vermont, to visit his father. As Adam pedals along, he recalls fragmented memories of his past, revealing a complex and suspenseful narrative.

The story is told through two alternating perspectives: Adam’s first-person account of his bike trip and a series of taped interviews between Adam and a mysterious figure named Brint. Through these interviews, Adam uncovers disturbing truths about his identity and his family’s past. He learns that his real name is Paul Delmonte and that his family was placed in the Witness Protection Program after his father testified against a corrupt government organization.

As Adam continues his journey, he encounters a variety of physical and psychological challenges and threats. The novel delves into themes of identity, memory, and the profound effects of trauma on the human mind.

It’s a gripping and thought-provoking read that delves into the complexities of the human mind and the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones
