About the Book Ironman

Ironman by Chris Crutcher is a compelling young adult novel that delves into themes of anger, self-discovery, and resilience. The story follows Beauregard “Bo” Brewster, a high school student with a passion for triathlons, who finds himself at odds with his authoritarian father and a strict English teacher. After a heated argument with his teacher, Bo is forced to attend anger management classes led by Mr. Nak, a calm and patient mentor.

In these sessions, Bo meets a diverse group of students, each dealing with their own struggles. Among them is Shelly, an athletic girl who becomes Bo’s friend and eventually his girlfriend. As Bo trains for the Yukon Jack Ironman Triathlon, he learns valuable lessons about himself and others, gaining insight into his own anger and the importance of empathy and support.

The novel is a blend of traditional narrative and epistolary elements, with Bo writing letters to CNN personality Larry King, providing a unique perspective on his journey. Through his training and interactions, Bo faces his inner demons and navigates the challenges of growing up, ultimately discovering a sense of peace and purpose.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
