About the Book King of the Wind

King of the Wind by Marguerite Henry tells the story of Sham, a swift Arabian horse, and his devoted caretaker, Agba, a mute stable boy. Set in the 18th century, the tale begins in Morocco, where Agba tends to Sham from birth, believing the horse is destined for greatness despite a series of omens and hardships.

Sham and Agba’s journey take them from Morocco to France and eventually to England, facing numerous challenges along the way. Despite being mistreated and undervalued, Sham’s speed and endurance eventually earn him recognition. The bond between Agba and Sham is central to the story, highlighting themes of loyalty, perseverance, and the triumph of the underdog.

The novel beautifully illustrates the historical significance of the Godolphin Arabian, whose lineage is present in many modern thoroughbred racehorses. With descriptive language and captivating storytelling, Marguerite Henry vividly portrays the adventures and challenges faced by Sham and Agba, solidifying King of the Wind as a timeless classic.
