About the Book Peace Like a River

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger blends elements of adventure, tragedy, and the supernatural. The story is narrated by Reuben Land, an 11-year-old boy with severe asthma, who recounts the extraordinary events that shape his family’s life in 1960s Minnesota.

Reuben’s father, Jeremiah Land, is a man of deep faith who performs what seem to be miracles. The family’s life takes a dramatic turn when Reuben’s older brother, Davy, kills two intruders who had threatened their family. Davy is arrested and later escapes from jail, prompting the family to embark on a journey to find him. As they travel across the Midwest, Reuben witnesses more of his father’s miraculous acts, which reinforce his belief in the divine.

The novel explores themes of faith, family, and the struggle between good and evil. It delves into the complexities of belief and the impact of miracles on the lives of ordinary people. Through Reuben’s eyes, readers experience a tale of loyalty, sacrifice, and the enduring power of hope.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
