Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan is a captivating historical novel set during World War II in Nazi-occupied Norway. The story follows a group of brave children who undertake a daring mission to smuggle their country’s gold past German sentries to a waiting Norwegian ship. Led by twelve-year-old Peter Lundstrom, the children use their sleds to transport the gold, cleverly hiding it under potato sacks and building snowmen to mark its location.
The novel highlights themes of courage, patriotism, and the resourcefulness of children in the face of danger. Despite the perilous circumstances, the children’s determination and ingenuity ensure the gold is safely transported to America, safeguarding Norway’s wealth from the Nazis.
