About the Book Somewhere in the Darkness

Somewhere in the Darkness by Walter Dean Myers follows the journey of fourteen-year-old Jimmy Little, who lives in New York City with his guardian, Mama Jean. Crab convinces Jimmy to join him on a road trip to Chicago and then to Arkansas, claiming he wants to prove his innocence for a crime he didn’t commit. As they travel, Jimmy learns about his father’s past and the complexities of their relationship. The novel explores themes of trust, redemption, and the bond between father and son, ultimately highlighting the choices people make and the legacies they leave behind.
