About the Book Swimmy
Swimmy by Leo Lionni is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that tells the story of a small, black fish named Swimmy who stands out from his school of red fish. When a large tuna eats all of his companions, Swimmy is left alone to explore the vast ocean. During his journey, he encounters various sea creatures and marvels at their beauty.
Eventually, Swimmy finds a new school of red fish who are too scared to leave their hiding place. Using his ingenuity, Swimmy devises a plan to help them swim safely by having them form the shape of a large fish, with Swimmy as the eye. This clever strategy allows them to scare away predators and swim freely in the ocean. The story highlights themes of teamwork, leadership, and the power of creativity and courage in overcoming challenges.
