About the Book The Book Thief

The Book Thief is set in Nazi Germany and narrated by Death, a unique and compelling choice that sets the tone for the novel. Death’s perspective is both detached and deeply empathetic, offering readers a distinctive lens through which to view the story.

The protagonist, Liesel Meminger, is a young girl sent to live with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, in the small town of Molching. Despite the bleakness of the era, Liesel finds solace in books, which she begins to steal, hence earning her the title of The Book Thief.

Throughout the novel, Liesel forms deep connections with those around her. Her bond with Hans, who teaches her to read, is particularly touching. Another significant relationship is with Rudy Steiner, her best friend, and Max Vandenburg, a Jewish man hiding in the Hubermanns' basement.

This Page Is Under Construction

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
