About the Book The Boxcar Children

The story begins with the four Alden children running away from a baker and his wife, who plan to separate them. Determined to stay together, they take refuge in an abandoned boxcar in the woods. With remarkable resourcefulness, they transform it into a cozy home, scavenge for food, and support each other.

The children’s ingenuity is evident as Henry finds work in the nearby town, earning money to buy essentials. Jessie takes on the role of caregiver, while Violet and Benny contribute in their own ways. Their simple yet adventurous life in the boxcar is a testament to their independence and strong family bond.

One day, Henry participates in a local race and catches the attention of Dr. Moore, a kind physician who becomes interested in the children’s well-being. Eventually, the children’s grandfather, James Henry Alden, discovers them. Initially feared by the children due to misconceptions, he turns out to be a loving and wealthy man who provides them with a permanent home.

This Page Is Under Construction

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
