About the Book The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo opens in 1815, with the young and promising sailor Edmond Dantès returning to Marseille. His life seems perfect—he has a loving fiancée, Mercedes, and prospects for a promotion. However, jealousy brews among his peers. Danglars, Fernand, and Caderousse conspire against him, leading to his wrongful imprisonment in the Chateau d'If.

Edmond's time in prison is marked by despair and a desire for revenge. During his incarceration, he befriends Abbé Faria, a fellow prisoner who educates him and reveals the existence of a hidden treasure on the Isle of Monte Cristo. This revelation sets the stage for Edmond's transformation.

After fourteen years, Edmond escapes and discovers the treasure. He adopts the persona of the Count of Monte Cristo, using his newfound wealth and identity to exact revenge on those who betrayed him. This transformation from a naïve sailor to a sophisticated avenger is central to the novel.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
