About the Book The Fighting Ground

The story begins on April 3, 1778, in a small New Jersey village. Jonathan, a thirteen-year-old boy, yearns to be a part of the war effort. Fascinated by the idea of battle and glory, he eagerly joins a local militia group against his father's wishes.

Jonathan's excitement quickly turns to terror as he experiences the chaos and brutality of war firsthand. The militia engages in a skirmish with Hessian soldiers, and Jonathan finds himself separated from his group and taken prisoner. During his captivity, he struggles with feelings of fear, confusion, and regret.

Throughout the course of the novel, Jonathan struggles with complex moral dilemmas and questions his understanding of right and wrong. The reality of war starkly contrasts with his initial romanticized view, forcing him to grow up quickly.

Eventually, Jonathan escapes and returns home, forever changed by his experiences. The book concludes with him pondering the true meaning of courage and the cost of war.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
