About the Book The Glory Field

1753 - Sierra Leone: The story begins in the year 1753 with Muhammad Bilal, an African boy captured by slave traders and shipped to America. Muhammad's experiences on the slave ship and his arrival in the New World set the stage for the family's long struggle.

1864 - Curry Island, South Carolina: We then move forward to the Civil War era, focusing on Lizzy Lewis, a newly freed slave. Lizzy’s section explores the immediate aftermath of emancipation and the challenges that come with newfound freedom.

1900 - Curry Island, South Carolina: Next, we meet Elijah Lewis, Lizzy's grandson, who dreams of more opportunities for himself and his family. Elijah’s story touches on the evolving dynamics of race and community in the South at the turn of the century.

1930 - Chicago, Illinois: Following Elijah, we are introduced to Luvenia Lewis, who moves north to Chicago during the Great Migration. Luvenia’s narrative highlights the optimism and the stark realities faced by African Americans seeking better lives in northern cities.

1964 - Johnson City, South Carolina: The story then shifts to Tommy Lewis, who finds himself in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. Tommy's experiences symbolize the fight for equality and justice during one of the most turbulent times in American history.

1994 - Harlem, New York: The final section brings us to Malcolm Lewis in 1994. Malcolm, a teenager, is grappling with his heritage and future. This section reflects on the progress made and the ongoing struggles faced by African Americans at the end of the 20th century.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
