About the Book The Homework Machine

In The Homework Machine, we meet Brenton Damagatchi, a fifth-grade genius who invents a machine to do his homework. Brenton is not your average student—he’s exceptionally intelligent but struggles to fit in with his peers. His invention, aptly named "Belch," changes everything.

Brenton’s classmates—Sam Dawkins (nicknamed "Snikwad"), Kelsey Donnelly, and Judy Douglas—soon learn about Belch. Each has their own reasons for wanting to use the machine. Sam wants to avoid his schoolwork altogether, Kelsey is keen on improving her grades, and Judy, although initially hesitant, sees the potential benefits of having more free time. Together, these four unlikely friends form a secret alliance, bound by their shared use of the homework machine.

At first, everything seems perfect. The machine works flawlessly, and the students find themselves with more free time than they’ve ever had. They use this time to explore their interests and bond as a group. However, as they become more dependent on Belch, they start to realize that the machine might not be as harmless as it seems.

The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of the four main characters, as well as their teacher, parents, and a police officer. This multi-perspective storytelling adds depth to the plot, providing insight into how each character views the situation and deals with the consequences of their actions.

Inevitably, their secret gets out, leading to a series of events that force the characters to confront the ethical implications of their actions. The machine begins to malfunction, producing incorrect homework answers and raising suspicions among teachers and parents. The story reaches its climax when the kids are faced with the ultimate dilemma—destroy the machine and come clean about their deception, or risk getting caught and facing severe consequences.

The resolution of the story is both satisfying and educational. The students learn valuable lessons about honesty, responsibility, and the importance of doing their own work. They also realize that while shortcuts might seem appealing, the hard work and effort they put into their education are what truly matter.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
