About the Book The Invention of Hugo Cabret

This enchanting tale blends elements of mystery, adventure, and history, making it a compelling read for children and adults alike.

Hugo Cabret, a young orphan, lives in the walls of a bustling Paris train station. His life is anything but ordinary. After the tragic death of his father, Hugo takes over his job of maintaining the station's clocks. This young boy's life revolves around fixing the clocks and avoiding the station inspector. His only possession, an automaton that his father was trying to repair, becomes Hugo's obsession.

The automaton is a mechanical man designed to write with a pen. However, it's broken and incomplete. Hugo believes that if he can fix it, it will reveal a secret message from his father. To repair the automaton, Hugo steals small mechanical parts from a toy booth at the train station. This leads him to meet Papa Georges, the grumpy old man who runs the toy booth, and his goddaughter, Isabelle.

Hugo and Isabelle's friendship grows as they uncover the secrets of the automaton and Papa Georges. They discover that Papa Georges is actually Georges Méliès, a pioneering filmmaker whose career has been forgotten. Through a series of adventurous escapades, Hugo and Isabelle bring Georges's past to light, restoring his legacy and finding their own paths to happiness.
