About the Book The Misfits

The Misfits by James Howe is a compelling story about four middle school friends—Bobby, Addie, Joe, and Skeezie—who are often labeled as misfits by their peers. Living in the small town of Paintbrush Falls, New York, they form a group called the “Gang of Five” and decide to run for student council to challenge the status quo and address the bullying they face.

The story is narrated by Bobby, who works part-time as a tie salesman. The friends create their own political party, the Freedom Party, to promote inclusivity and stand against name-calling and bullying. Through their campaign, they learn valuable lessons about friendship, self-acceptance, and the power of standing up for what they believe in. The novel highlights the importance of embracing diversity and the impact of kindness and understanding in overcoming prejudice.

This Page Is Under Construction

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
