About the Book The Mud Pony

The Mud Pony by Caron Lee Cohen is a retelling of a traditional Skidi Pawnee tale. The story follows a young, poor boy who dreams of owning a pony. Unable to afford one, he creates a pony out of mud. One night, he dreams that his mud pony comes to life and speaks to him. When he wakes up, he finds that his mud pony has indeed come to life.

The magical pony guides the boy through various challenges, helping him find his tribe and eventually leading him to become a respected leader. The story emphasizes themes of perseverance, faith, and the importance of dreams.
