About the Book The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo is a heartwarming tale that follows the adventures of Despereaux Tilling, a small mouse with big ears and an even bigger heart. Born in a castle, Despereaux is unlike other mice—he loves reading books and has a fascination for music and fairy tales. His life takes an unexpected turn when he falls in love with a beautiful human princess named Pea and finds himself on a heroic quest that leads him from the darkness of a dungeon to the light of the princess’s chamber.

The story is divided into four parts, each focusing on different characters whose lives are interwoven with Despereaux’s fate. Alongside Despereaux, there’s Roscuro, a rat who craves light and beauty but brings about tragedy; Miggery Sow, a servant girl who longs for a different life; and the entire kingdom of Dor, which is cast into gloom when soup and rats are banned.

Despereaux’s bravery and spirit challenge the conventions of his world, as he seeks to rescue Princess Pea and confront the darkness. The novel, which won the Newbery Medal, is a celebration of courage, hope, and the power of storytelling, reminding readers young and old that even the smallest creature can change the course of the future.

Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
