About the Book We Beat the Street
We Beat the Street is an inspiring nonfiction work that tells the true story of three friends—Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins—who grew up in the tough streets of Newark, New Jersey. Despite the challenges of violence, drugs, and gang activity that surrounded them, the three made a pact to rise above their circumstances and pursue careers in medicine. With the support of each other and the influence of key mentors, they overcame significant obstacles and achieved their dreams, becoming doctors and role models for youth.
The book, co-authored with Sharon M. Draper, serves as a testament to the power of friendship, determination, and education in changing one’s life trajectory.
