About the Book Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is a classic children’s book by Maurice Sendak that tells the story of Max, a young boy who, after being sent to bed without supper for misbehaving, embarks on a fantastical journey to an island inhabited by the Wild Things. These creatures are monstrous and intimidating, but Max conquers them with a simple “magic trick” of staring into their eyes without blinking. They crown him as their king, and together they enjoy a wild rumpus.

However, Max soon feels homesick and decides to return to where he is loved. He sails back and finds his supper waiting for him, still hot. The story explores themes of anger, imagination, and the desire for independence while highlighting the importance of home and family love. Sendak’s own background influenced the book, with the term “Wild Things” deriving from a Yiddish expression for unruly children, and the Wild Things themselves inspired by the author’s relatives.

It takes a long time to gather all the data for our new book page format with more useful descriptions, themes, and activity ideas. Meanwhile, this page is active so you can order books; it just isn't quite as informative or graphically appealing as the new page will be. Thanks for understanding! :-)
